Tarata is a town located at 35 kilometers from the city of Cochabamba and has a moderate climate of 22 C.

Tarata boasts one of the most fascinating histories of Valle Alto. Thanks to its well-preserved colonial architecture it remains a popular tourist destination in the valley.

Various important buildings remain in fine condition like the San Pedro temple located in the Plaza de Armas where a beautiful organ from the 1700s is conserved. One can also visit the San Jose Convent, the first of its kind constructed in Bolivia. Also offering visitors spectacular views is the Consistorial Palace.

Some of the other attractions of Tarata include the Governmental Palace of the Ex-president General Melgarejo and the festivities of the Holy Patron of Tarata and San Severino which are usually held towards the end of November.

In Tarata tourists can also visit rustic weaving and spinning workshops.
